Put pearls on last.
This is the golden rule of pearl care. Always apply perfume, hairspray, dry shampoo, and moisturiser before putting on your jewellery. Chemicals and alcohol in these products can dull the pearl's natural lustre over time. Pearls should be the last thing you put on — and the first thing you take off.
Wipe them down after wearing.
A quick wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth after each wear removes any skin oils, sweat, or product residue that may have transferred during the day. This simple habit makes a significant difference to how your pearls look over time. Never use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, or harsh jewellery cleaning solutions — these can damage the nacre (the iridescent outer layer that gives pearls their glow).
Store them properly.

Sterling Silver is a classic that develops a natural patina over time. To restore its shine, gently polish with a soft silver cloth. Avoid exposing it to chlorine, bleach, or saltwater, which can accelerate tarnishing.
14K Gold-Filled is more resistant to tarnish than silver and is an excellent choice for everyday wear. It can be wiped clean with a soft cloth. Like silver, keep it away from harsh chemicals and remove it before swimming or showering.

A few things that can shorten the life of your pearl jewellery:
- Chlorinated pools and spa water
- Saltwater (ocean swimming)
- Prolonged direct sunlight, which can dry out and crack the nacre
- Sleeping or showering in your jewellery
